Updated Business Information & Business Assistance

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

NOTE: On Friday, April 3rd, 2020, Governor Brian Kemp will be instituting a "Shelter-in-Place" order for the State of Georgia. This information will be updated as necessary once documentation is provided on how our community businesses are to operate.

With the advice and encouragement of the President of the United States, the Governor of Georgia, and the hardworking folks at the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), Main Street Toccoa is encouraging "social distancing" (we bet that that will be Merriam-Webster's phrase of the year!) here in our community.

In keeping with these recommendations, we have unfortunately had to postpone our April 2nd Sip-n-Stroll and all Downtown and Ritz Theatre events through April. The May 2nd Toast of Toccoa is still scheduled to proceed as normal. Stay tuned for updated information on new dates for postponed events, because we are rescheduling!
------
We understand that these times are tough, folks. Here in this office, we have family members who could be out of work or wondering when their next paycheck will come in. All of us do in Toccoa-Stephens County. We all understand this struggle. As our friends at RecastCity have said, "Let's be clear, if small businesses earn no revenue, go bankrupt, or fold, then people don't get paid, people don't eat, and people lose their homes." (Take a look at the entire helpful article here.)

Small Businesses are being affected more than anything. People are hesitant to go shopping except for those essential items. Stores are closing for now, and fast food restaurants are switching to drive-thru only. Our restaurants and stores are facing empty buildings and empty registers.

So where does that put our Small Businesses, and more importantly, the Small Businesses in Downtown Toccoa?

This update includes important information on helping you weather these tough times. The first section details new business hours, specials, and more. Let's support our community.

The second section details the Small Business Administration (SBA)'s Emergency Loan program, the CARES Act Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) and other programs that you can take advantage of NOW.

Important Note: GDOL Filing

The Georgia Department of Labor (GDOL) is ready and able to assist employers and the public in any way they can. It must be noted that employers are required to file partial claims on behalf of their employees whenever it is necessary to temporarily reduce work hours or there is no work available for a short period. Any employer found to be in violation of this rule will be required to reimburse GDOL for the full amount of unemployment insurance benefits paid to the employee.
