Ida Cox, born Ida Prather in Toccoa, left Georgia to make her mark in the music world in the early 20th century. She starred as a vaudeville performer and was one of the pioneers of the blues genre of music.

The Main Street program began in 1990 to facilitate the revitalization of downtown Toccoa. The overall objective is to improve the viability and appearance of the downtown district and to stimulate long-term reinvestment.
